Stress impairs immune system function and increases the dog’s susceptibility to bacterial or viral infections. Help keep your dog healthy be avoiding three common sources of stress: social, noise, and separation anxiety.
See if your dog is suffering from anxiety and follow these easy tips:
Social Anxiety – Some dogs are uncomfortable when surrounded by other dogs or people and will display aggressive behavior, This often results from a lack of socialization. The best solution is desensitization to the stimulus by increasing exposure to new people and places. Going for walks in different places and dog parks is a great way to start.
Noise Anxiety – Dogs suffering from noise anxiety are scared of loud noises and are often skittish. The easiest way to eliminate this is to provide your dog with a quiet environment. If you live in a noisy area, provide a place where your dog feels safe and secure, like a kennel or dog house.
Separation Anxiety – Dogs suffering from separation anxiety display symptoms such as urinating/defecating inside the house, howling, barking and destructive behaviors. You can slowly get your pet used to the idea of you living by putting the dog in a separate room and closing the door while you are home; continue this process until you can leave safely for several hours.
