Using a Dog’s Blood Serum Profile

The blood chemistry profile is a panel of tests that provides a broad range of information to evaluate your dog’s general health. Having your dog’s serum chemistry profile on file provides a valuable record that can be used to help diagnose the source of conditions experienced by your dog in the future.


A serum chemistry profile will provide the following information:


Triglycerides – Triglycerides show the levels of fat in the blood. High levels will be found in the blood four to six hours after eating, regardless of diet. 12-hour fasting is needed to produce accurate test results.

Decreased levels appear not be a problem.

Increased levels may indicate diabetes mellitus, starvation, under-active thyroid and acute (sudden onset) of pancreatitis.
